So called liberals, Al Quaeda, and the Westboro Baptist Church

Make mine a double

The Westboro Baptist Church are vermin who believe some insane and offensive things.

Al Quaeda are another group of vermin who believe some insane and offensive things.

No one worries too much about offending the Westboro Baptist Church, indeed, when their squalid little plans are thwarted people are happy about it and rightly so. No one sits around looking at their grievances, wondering which are valid, and asking us to put ourselves in Fred Phelps shoes.

Yet, in the wake of Osama Bin Laden’s death, some people are wondering whether the reaction of Americans to the news risks upsetting the members of Al Quaeda or potential sympathisers.

Should they be worried about this?

First I’d say that if you are a member of Al Quaeda you are probably already as upset about something or other its possible to be anyway. If you are, right now, just a sympathiser only needing the slight nudge of a bit of fist pumping at Ground Zero to convince you to commit mass murder, then you are almost certainly psychotic to begin with.

Secondly I’d ask who gives a shit? Really? No one cares when Fred Phelps and his weirdos get their tails tweaked so why should we get worried about whether we upset the lunatics in Al Quaeda and its sympathisers or not?

The answer is sadly obvious; unlike Al Quaeda the Westboro Baptist Church hasn’t killed anybody yet. Perhaps they should. Perhaps that way they would get left wing journalists wringing their hands and asking “Well, we have to ask ourselves why it is that they think God hates fags” Maybe if Fred Phelps shot a few people he would get so called liberals campaigning against gay marriage so it couldn’t be a ‘recruiting sergeant for the Westboro Baptist Church’?

It is depressing that all it takes to elevate one set of lunatics above another, to the level where left wingers agonise over how best to appease them, is that groups greater capacity for violence. We are constantly told that morals are the sole property of the left but where is the morality here?

The so called liberals not only fail to see the equivalence between Al Quaeda and the Westboro Baptist Church, they do manage to see it between Al Quaeda and those celebrating Bin Laden’s death! Left wing columnist Petula Dvorak wrote

“When I saw that folks were celebrating in the streets at the news of bin Laden’s death, my first reaction was a cringe. Remember how we all felt watching videos of Muslims dancing in celebration on Sept. 11, 2001?”

This would only occur to someone who sees a moral equivalence between the death of Bin Laden and the deaths in the Twin Towers. Can this woman really not see the difference between celebrating the death of a terrorist and celebrating the deaths of nearly 3,000 civilians?

The Westboro Baptist Church is to be ridiculed but Al Quaeda is to be understood. You need to kill a few people to be taken seriously. Celebrating the death of a terrorist is as bad as celebrating the deaths of his victims. The much trumpeted moral compass of the left and so called liberals is all over the place.

Osama Bin Laden 1957-2011

Gotcha!

Osama Bin Laden is dead. This is great news. In 1998 he was behind bomb attacks on American embassies in Kenya and Tanzania which killed 224 people. He was behind the 2000 attack on the USS Cole which killed 17 US sailors. On September 11th 2001 he was behind the attacks on the Twin Towers which killed nearly 3,000 innocent people 66 of whom were British making ot the deadliest terrorids atrocity in our history. This list is far from exhaustive.

There are worries about retaliation. I am totally convinced that retaliation will come. But it is entirely possible that this retaliation was being planned even before Bin Laden was shot by a team of US Navy SEALs last night.

The perpetrator of the the next murderous attack simply needs to add Bin Laden’s death to the long list of ‘injustices’ he or she will be seeking to avenge. And it is a very long list. Bin Laden’s deputy claimed that 9/11 was, among other things, revenge for the Christian reconquest of Spain in the 15th century. On thing these fanatics are never short of is some justification for their horrific actions. We simply do not have time to worry about all of them.

For now the world is down one evil scumbag. Recall Margaret Thatcher’s words after the Falklands; Rejoice!
